Lettuce Crops at Beans and Greens Farm

Dear Kelly,

Hello from the Farm!
I can't believe another month has passed....so much is happening on the farm!  Spring is such a busy season with all the field preparations that include plowing, harrowing, and planting.  The cows have moved from their winter quarters to the summer pasture and the hay harvest is in full swing. Our employees are all finding out just how much it takes to get the hay into the barn!

June got off to a great start with our first Young Farmer's Day .  We had visitingAlpacas alpacas, oxen, big horses and miniature horses and all kinds of exciting activities for the children.    You can see more photos on the Beans & Greens Farmstand page on Facebook!  Were you there?  Maybe you are in one of the photos!

Strawberries have been amazing....so many, and so incredibly delicious!  We need them to continue coming on strong for another week or so - at least until after our Strawberry Festivalthis coming Saturday!  As in years past, we will be strawberriesfeaturing all kinds of strawberry  "goodies" in the store that day....strawberry shortcake, strawberry smoothies, strawberry cupcakes....to name a few!  Plan a visit this weekend to join the fun!

Perhaps some of you are aware that June is Perennial Month.  This being our first year to really grow many of our own perennials, we are adding a new program to help you in your perennial purchases.  Every few days there will be a new selection of 4 featured perennials displayed.  Besides details on growing these plants, they will also be 20% off while they are featured!  In conjunction with this, Martina will be having some question/answer sessions that you are welcome to attend to help you with your personal perennial situations.  Join Martina on June 27th at 10:30 am with your questions in hand!  No charge for free advice.....

peasVegetables, vegetables, vegetables!  Here they come!  Right now we have our own: lettuce, beet greens, Swiss chard, radishes, sug ar snap peas, slicing cukes, pickling cukes, zucchini, and summer squash.  Some of the veggies are grown in one of our greenhouses and may not be available in abundant supply yet, but the early bird can get the worm....so come early for the best selection!

Look for many new products in the store during the next few weeks.  We are focusing on foods with local (mostly New England) origins and staying as healthy as we can.  Are you gluten free?  Look for our new line of gluten free items thatdeli include cereals, breads, chips and more!  Check out the terrific salads created by Jenny in the deli - have her prepare one of her wonderful sandwiches for your lunch and take it outside to the new picnic tables!  Do you like good hearty bread?  Look for the Swiss Muesli bread in the bakery!  Find Misty Knoll chicken from Vermont in the deli case...all natural - no hormones or antibiotics - fresh every week!

Do you have requests?  Comments for us....suggestions and complaints - we want to hear them all!  That about covers it for today....see you at the farm!
