TANGER DONATES $25,873 TO FIGHT BREAST CANCER IN THE LAKES REGION AREA
LRGHealthcare Women’s Imaging Center receives donation throughthe Stanley K. Tanger Breast Cancer Fund

Tanger Outlet MallTilton, NH, January 4, 2007…For the 13th year, Tanger Outlet Centers showed its nationwide commitment to battling breast cancer in the communities that it serves.  As part of the company’s national Breast Cancer Awareness campaign which took place September 15-October 31, 2006, the Tanger Outlet Center in Tilton raised $25,873.  The money raised locally by Tanger during this year’s campaign will benefit the LRGHealthcare Women’s Imaging Center through the Stanley K. Tanger Breast Cancer Fund.  Tanger’s 2006 donation to fight breast cancer was presented during a special ceremony on January 4 at Lakes Region General Hospital.  

 “We are very proud to join forces with LRGHealthcare Women’s Imaging Center in the mutual goal of putting an end to this terrible disease that affects so many of our friends and loved ones,” stated Eric N. Proulx, General Manager of the Tanger Outlet Center in Tilton.  “Our annual Breast Cancer Awareness campaign gives us the opportunity to really make a big difference by helping to save lives right here in our community.”      

“We are very grateful for the generous support of the Tanger Outlet Center in breast cancer awareness and prevention,” said Anne Hamilton, Director of Philanthropy at LRGHealthcare. “This donation will be allocated to our Campaign for Digital Mammography. Our goal is to bring this state-of-the-art technology to Franklin Regional Hospital and Lakes Region General Hospital in the coming year.”

Tanger’s Breast Cancer Awareness campaign raised money through a variety of onsite programs at Tanger shopping centers.  For a $2 donation, Tanger shoppers received a special Pink and Choose discount card that gave them bonus discount offers at participating Tanger stores.  Tanger also supported the fight against breast cancer by donating up to 25% of all Tanger gift cards purchased during the campaign.  In Tilton, Tanger also initiated relationships with Yankee Magazine and Uno Chicago Grill to raise additional funds for the LRGHealthcare Women’s Imaging Center.

Nationally, Tanger’s Breast Cancer Awareness campaign this fall raised $500,000 supporting the local efforts of more than a dozen different breast cancer organizations across the nation.  Since 1994, Tanger has contributed more than $4.5 million to help create awareness for the importance mammograms and early detection, to support educational programs that can improve the quality of life for patients and families and to help fund the critical research needed to discover a method of prevention and a cure for breast cancer.  

More than 211,000 new cases of breast cancer are expected in the United States, this year alone.  Breast cancer is the leading cause of death in women between the ages of 40-55.  Approximately 1,600 men are expected to be diagnosed with breast cancer in 2006 and 400 are predicted to die according to the National Breast Cancer Foundation
