On the Winona Road since 1976

a complete art experience

Open 10am-5pm Daily - All Year
Except Thanksgiving & Christmas Days

As you approach the grounds on the Winona Road from Route 104, in the distance across a field you will see a large 1790 farm with many buildings trailing along under the trees of nicely landscaped grounds. Enter the large parking lot just before the very tall sign announcing The Old Print Barn.
From the parking lot you cannot see the large Civil War period barn among the trees that has been scrubbed and redecorated to serve as a 21st Century Art Gallery. Walk back down the driveway to the large sign where you can see the entrance to the gallery. The original structure of the building was not changed in the 20th Century.

From the beginning of the 19th century until after the Civil War the property was a typical 19th century New England operating farm with horses, cows, chickens, gardens and orchards. The livestock is long gone with the 19th century and during the 20th century, the property was changed to an art gallery and private home.

Enter the barn door to find yourself in one of the largest art galleries in New England. Walk to the center where you can look all around to see over two thousand original works of art on display. In this one gallery you will see all forms of printmaking from etchings to mezzotints, photography, watercolors, and oil paintings.

The gallery is composed of a main floor over forty by forty feet having two lofts at the second floor level. Both floors are composed of a dozen 8 by 10 foot small bays to make viewing easier. You can see the giant hand hewed timbers that make up the superstructure of the Civil War period barn. Nothing has been changed, only decorated to lose the impression of a cow barn and gain that of an art gallery.

If we are not swamped, one of us will greet you and give you a brief talk on types of art found in the various small bays. The person who greets you will most probably be Sophia who has over 30 years' experience in the field of works of art on paper. It is now that you will probably learn that in addition to having an extremely large stock of original art, The Old Print Barn offers all the services that art galleries should including Authentication, Evaluation (current market prices), Framing and Restoration. Now you're in The Old Print Barn, a 21st Century Gallery offering a complete art experience.

The very latest mention is in Yankee Magazine's (All New for 2003) Travel New England. A more fully developed article was published in November 2002 issue of the regular Yankee Magazine. Among the complimentary statements is an important one: Sophia's personal attention to customers ensures that the novice art collectors and experts alike feel at home... and may ask simple as well as brilliant questions.

Fodor's latest publications, the Compass American Guides, has in the New Hampshire Issue on page 173, a large paragraph on The Barn and it seems to be the only complete art gallery in the center of New Hampshire.

More to my personal taste is The Old Print Barn. This excellent gallery, gathered in a restored barn, specializes in quality New Hampshire etchings, and engravings. James S. Wamsley, National Geographic Traveler, September/October 1992

The Old Print Barn has numerous accolades from other publications including Fodor's Maine, Vermont, New Hampshire, The Boston Globe, New Hampshire: An Explorer's Guide, This Week Antiquing Guide, Trips for Those Over 50 and more.
