Best Beaches for You and Your Family in the Lakes Region of New Hampshire
Amy Landers the Executive Director of the Lakes Region Tourism Association was recently asked by a reporter, “What is the Best Beaches in the Lakes Region?”
She realized that this question is very difficult to answer because it all depends on the scenario-
“What do you want to do while visiting the Lakes Region? Who is travelling with you?” she asked.
So, here are some suggestions and ideas for any vacation.
Play in the sand, float and swim?
Lake Opechee is a great option for families with the two sandy beaches; a playground; picnic area; open field for playing ball and exercise on the track.
The Center Harbor Public Beach also has a playground for children, picnic area and sandy beach.
Swim, fish and take a hike?
Wellington State Park is a wonderful spot with amazing views; beautiful beach; bath houses and hiking trails right from the beach. This is a great way to do more while enjoying the water.
You can go fishing on all of the lakes, ponds, streams, and rivers in the area.
Swim then walk to activities?
“I enjoy a day at Weirs Beach where we can play in the sand and crystal clear water. Then take a break by walking up the boardwalk to enjoy one of many activities,” says Landers.
At Weirs Beach you can walk on the boardwalk to play games; eat ice cream; shop or enjoy one of the many restaurants. “My two favorite Crazy Gringo for Mexican and Margaritas (Great M&M combo) or go to the Weathervane Restaurant to enjoy seafood,” Landers continued.
Swim, bike and hike?
“If you want to have a full day, I love the Allen A Beach in Wolfeboro,” Landers said. There is a beautiful sandy beach with amazing mountain views, grilling and picnic area, a nice new bathhouse and bring the children’s bike so you can either begin or end the day with a bike ride on the rail trail. “My children ride their bikes on a nice flat groomed trail with lake views while my husband and I can walk and catch up about the day. We can continue into Wolfeboro for ice cream and candy surprises before heading back to the beach,” Landers continued.
In Wolfeboro you can walk downtown for shopping, dining at one of the many restaurants and a visit to the museums. The Wright Museum a WWII Museum is a great stop at the edge of the rail trail where you can see the exhibits of the Home Front during the War and memorabilia.
From quiet quaint beaches to State Parks to the fun activity beach there is a beach and water that will provide a wonderful vacation for you!
