A Boat Ride To The World Of Island Trees! – Squam Lakes Association, Holderness NH

September 30 @ 12:00 pm - 3:00 pm
A boat ride to learn about trees?  What a WONDERFUL WORLD!  You could look in your front yard, but why not voyage across the waves of Squam Lake on the mighty and dignified USS Calypso, a tritoon barge that never fails to deliver us to our greatest destinies. Join the Squam Lakes Association on Saturday, September 30th from noon to 3pm for a boat ride and short hike on Squam Lake! In the midst of Squam’s beauty lies a pattern of islands big and small, which we will quest through and around before landing on Bowman Island to take a short hike (~a half mile).  Here we will see more awe-inspiring scenes of the lake and of the island’s ecology, as your LRCC guide Jenna gives short lessons on different species of trees that we will encounter there.  We will end our hike with a pirate-party of iced tea on the caretaker dock before voyaging back to the SLA Headquarters.

The Squam Lakes Association is dedicated to conserving for the public benefit of the watershed’s natural beauty, peaceful character, and resources. In collaboration with local and state partners, the SLA promotes the protection, careful use, and shared enjoyment of the Squam Lakes Region’s lakes, mountains, forests, open spaces, and wildlife. Hiking Five Finger Point and experiencing the infamous jumping rock is one of many ways to enjoy and take in the natural beauty and peaceful character of Squam Lake.

For more information or to sign up for this free Adventure Ecology program, visit the SLA website (squamlakes.org) or contact the SLA directly (603-968-7336). The SLA also offers other guided hikes and Adventure Ecology programming throughout the year. These free programs are open to the public and cover a variety of nature and conservation-related topics. The LRCC AmeriCorps members present the Adventure Ecology programs at the SLA, who perform essential conservation work in support of the Association’s mission.
