According to the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI): “Already this year more than 140 police officers have died by suicide. Both firefighters and police officers are more likely to die by suicide than in the line of duty. It’s estimated that 18-24% of dispatchers and 35% of police officers suffer from PTSD.”
Despite these statistics, Post Traumatic Stress remains untreated in many cases due to stigma and a “superhero” philosophy, as well as lack of knowledge about and opportunities to get help.
