Robin Patten

A multimedia artist who got started in oils watching Bill Alexander on PBS. I have always had a propensity for art and the creative process. I have very fond memories of watching my father sketch cartoon characters and my uncle, a gun smith, rubbing gunstocks with pumice and oil into a glass like finish.

I enjoy impressionism or interpretive pieces that challenge me to capture a mood or a feeling. Although I can appreciate the traditional I find it too restricting and prefer to let the piece guide the process; if it needs bubbles I need to learn how to blow glass.

This approach has brought me to incorporate ceramics and other mediums into my pieces and opens the door to endless possibilities.

In this art talk, Robin will demonstrate and talk about the tools he uses in his carvings. He will provide detail specifically about relief carving and the different types of tools used in the process as well as the types of wood. He’ll also have prepared pieces for a hands on experience.
