Finding Your Roots
Six weekly sessions Tuesdays from 3-4:30pm from October 12-November 16

Have you ever wondered who your ancestors are? Now is your chance to explore your family tree and learn about your forebears. In this course we will discover how family names were created and delve into a vast and rich array of sources to uncover the basic facts – and perhaps a few secrets – about our ancestors: family oral traditions, the U.S. Census, city directories, county maps, county and family histories, military records, passenger lists, naturalization records and parish registers of births, marriages and deaths. We will also share tips on how to avoid missteps in our research and what we can do if we hit an apparent dead-end. Finally, we will share suggestions on the best way to preserve and display the fruits of our genealogical research to leave a lasting legacy for our children and grandchildren.

There are no requirements for this course and all are welcome to attend whether you are a beginner or experienced student of your family’s history.

There is no cost to take the course, however registration is required. To sign up, call the library at 603-744-3352, email minotsleeperlibrary@gmail.com or visit us in person at the library.

Bruce Nilsson will teach the course. He is a graduate of Bowdoin College (B.A.) and the University of Michigan (M.A., Ph.D). After a career in education, law, insurance and theater, he has retired to his native New England, where he enjoys trout-fishing and working as a professional genealogist.
