Guided Hike: Reading a Landscape’s History – Squam Lakes Assoc
March 16 @ 8:00 am - 5:00 pm
Registration: Registration is required. Space is limited to 12 people. Click here to register for this program.
This Week’s Program:
The program is gear towards people who want to add extra excitement to their hikes. The goal is for participants to develop their deduction skills with a simple look at the natural area surrounding them. Was it once farm land? Was it once used for logging? What’s that stone wall doing there? There are various forensic techniques that can be learned in order to answer these questions. Additionally, participants will learn about the history of land use in New England, both a tragic yet empowering story. By the end, participants should feel like a Sherlock Holmes of the forest.
Audience: Any age. Minors must be accompanied by a guardian.
What to Bring: Participants should bring appropriate clothing, water, food, and snowshoes and/or micro-spikes depending on conditions. The SLA can provide snowshoes for up to six participants. Click here to view a list of SLA recommended gear for winter hiking.
