Knights Pond Conservation Area Guided Excursion Hike
August 23, 2019 @ 9:00 am - 12:00 pm
Join us for a guided hike around one of the Lake’s Regions most pristine and unique ecological areas, Knight’s Pond.
This 31-acre crystal-clear pond, enclosed by 307 acres of conserved land, was part of a multi-year land protection project in the late 1980s to the early 1990s. It is now one of the only large water bodies in the Lakes Region without any development along its shoreline. Formed by glacial erosion, the blend of steep rock drumlin cliffside and wetland beaver habitat provides a multitude of natural communities to explore.
Lakes Region Conservation Corps member Alyssa Milo will lead this easy/moderate 2.8-mile hike around the pond and will share her research on the geologic features of the area and answer your naturalist questions.
This outing will start at 9 am. We will walk 0.4 miles up an old road, eventually meeting the main blue trail that follows the circumference of the pond. After this 2-mile loop, we will return to the parking lot by approximately 12 pm. We ask that participants plan to arrive by 8:45 am to register and prepare for the hike. Please note that the cell phone reception in the area is spotty at best.
All LRCT guided hikes are free, but registration is required.
