Loon Day – Squam Lakes Natural Science Center and the Loon Preservation Committee at Squam Lakes Natural Science Center, Holderness NH

July 13 @ 9:30 am - 5:00 pm

Squam Lakes Natural Science Center and the Loon Preservation Committee are excited to
announce the third annual Loon Day on Monday, July 13, from 9:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The event celebrates New
Hampshires iconic Common Loon through a day of education, conservation, and exploration on Squam Lake.
The partnership brings together two organizations dedicated to protecting New Hampshires natural resources
and inspiring appreciation for the states wildlife. Visitors will have opportunities to meet loon experts, learn
about current research and stewardship efforts.
Common Loons are important indicators of environmental quality, making their well-being closely tied to the
health of New Hampshires lakes and ponds. Through engaging programs and conversations with biologists,
visitors can gain a deeper understanding of the challenges loons face, and the role healthy lake ecosystems play
in supporting wildlife.
Throughout the day, all Squam Lakes Cruises will operate as Loon Cruises, offering guests the opportunity to
learn about loon biology, behavior, monitoring, and conservation while exploring Squam Lake. A Science Center
naturalist joins a Loon Preservation Committee biologist on each cruise, providing insight into the statewide
conservation work and ongoing efforts to protect loons on Squam Lake. Cruise routes are selected to maximize
opportunities for loon observations.
On shore, visitors can stop by an information table hosted by the Loon Preservation Committee to connect with
experts, explore current research initiatives, and discover practical ways to help protect loons and their habitat.
The Loon Preservation Committees mission is to restore and maintain a healthy population of loons throughout
New Hampshire while promoting a greater understanding of loons and the larger natural world. The Howling
Coyote Gift Shop will offer a discount on Loon products.
Advance purchase of Loon Cruise tickets is required. For cruise schedules, ticket information, and more details
