LatinXoxo is Migguel Anggelo’s nonconforming and self-accepting rallying cry: A break from “Latin Lover” clichés and his own Venezuelan father’s gendered expectations. LatinXoxo was designed to immerse an audience in a highly personal story. It is an artful collage of theater, queer comedy, physical movement, and sumptuous song selections. The musical repertoire spans decades of pop hits, his own original compositions, and the Spanish boleros that defined his youth. With equal doses of sensitivity and sensationalism, “turning on a dime from anger to devastating tenderness” (Broadway World), Migguel Anggelo reminds us that our greatest love is right there in the mirror. With musical direction by Jaime Lozano and a book by C. Julian Jiménez, LatinXoxo is conceived by Migguel Anggelo and directed by Adrian Alexander Alea. “LatinXoxo is a provocative and meaningful musical memoir that leaves us with the momentous message to focus on the positive and to show who you really are before it’s too late. Migguel Anggelo has done just that, with exceptional talent, humor, and heart.” — DC Theater Arts
Brooklyn based Migguel Anggelo is a multidisciplinary performance artist who uses music, physical theater, text, and often costume, to create unique and highly personal representations of his queer, immigrant, and Venezuelan identities. A boldly original artist, he speaks to today’s multi-lingual, multi-generational audiences by passionately expressing the same longings for safety, freedom, love, joy and belonging that we all share, regardless of sexual orientation and country of origin.
