Full exhibit: May 1 – June 15, 2023 and September 15 – October 31, 2023
Selected highlights: July 1 – September 6, 2023
Back from 3 years traveling to museums around the country, this visitor favorite exhibit returns to the Wright Museum in 2023!
Pvt. Charles Miller from Nashua, NH was a self-taught artist who sketched and painted more than 700 scenes during his time island-hopping in the South Pacific, creating a visual diary of the life of an American soldier. With vivid colors and impressive technique, these paintings are truly a “national treasure” from the WWII era.
The exhibit, consisting of 81 framed paintings, narrative text panels and some previously undisplayed works will be on display through June 15. A reduced version of the show featuring selected highlights will remain on display in the Art Gallery through October 31.
The Wright Musuem is grateful to The Art Place of Wolfeboro; to Charlie’s
nephew and his wife, James and Jonie Clemons; and to the family of Cpt. Donald M. Jones, Navy AF 1942-45 for helping make possible the framing and mating of eighty three of Miller’s works. The Wright Museum is also indebted to Nancy and Bob Dennis, and to James and Joni Clemons for
allowing us to curate and share this exceptional exhibition.
