Simply Shaker Picnic-on-the-Green Featuring the Presentation:
“Preserving What is Simply Significant”
This Saturday, August 29th from 5 – 6:30 pm, Canterbury Shaker Village is hosting the Simply Shaker Picnic-on-the-Green, featuring the presentation: “Preserving What is Simply Significant”. This educational conversation will discuss historic preservation and the importance of protecting Canterbury Shaker Village’s significant structures.
Leading the presentation is Ben Wilson, Director of NH Division of Historical Resources, with Martha Werenfels, Principal at DBVW Architects, Providence, and Rob Emlen, Visiting Scholar in American Studies at Brown University and author of Imagining the Shakers: How the Visual Culture of Shaker Life was Pictured in the Popular Illustrated Press of Nineteenth-Century America.
This event also features a live Fund-the-Need Auction, which will directly benefit the Village’s new Building Assessment, an important navigational tool for the future of maintaining the historic Shaker buildings for years come. If you are interested in attending the Picnic, admission can be purchased on the website here. Admission is $50.00 per person, and is a bring-your-own-picnic with beverages and desserts provided by the Village.
Social distancing will be in place and please be sure to bring your mask. There will also be special Village masks, made by the Canterbury Sewers, for sale.
