SLA to Host Guided Hike at Doublehead Mountain
December 12 @ 9:00 am - 3:00 pm
Join Squam Lakes Association (SLA) on December 12th for a hike up Doublehead Mountain. Doublehead is the eastern-most mountain along the Squam Range. From the summit of Doublehead Mountain we will enjoy views of Squam Lake, Lake Winnipesaukee and surrounding mountains to the south, and have a lunch break before heading down. This hike is 3.6 miles round trip. We will meet at 9:00 am at the Crawford Ridgepole trail head on Sandwich Notch Road, and finish around 2:00 pm. Participants will need to bring lots of warm layers, water, food, snowshoes which SLA can provide for up to six people, and micro spikes. Don’t forget to register online!
Not only is Doublehead one of the summits along the Squam Range, but this is also a hike on the Squam Ranger list for those pursuing all the hikes on the list or interested in hiking all of SLA’s trails. Even if you aren’t interested in becoming a Squam Ranger, you can still learn about ways to get involved with future SLA events and ways you can be a steward of the watershed.
For more information, or to sign up for this Adventure Ecology program, visit the SLA website (squamlakes.org) or contact the SLA directly (603-968-7336). The SLA offers Adventure Ecology programs throughout the year. These free programs are open to the public and cover a variety of nature and conservation related topics. The Adventure Ecology programs are presented by the LRCC AmeriCorps members at the SLA who perform important conservation work in support of the Association’s mission.
The Squam Lakes Association is dedicated to conserving for public benefit the natural beauty, peaceful character and resources of the watershed. In collaboration with local and state partners the SLA promotes the protection, careful use and shared enjoyment of the lakes, mountains, forests, open spaces and wildlife of the Squam Lakes Region.
