Katie Dobbins
Award winning singer-songwriter and light warrior Katie Dobbins seeks to share honest music that captivates listeners and brings light to the darkness. With a mastery of storytelling and the heart of a poet, this soulful songstress captures elements of life and relationships in ways that lift the spirit and challenge the soul. Her album There Is Light, produced by multi-award-winning producer Sean McLaughlin of 37′ Productions, was awarded Album of the Year at the 2019 New England Music Awards and 2021 Limelight Music Awards. Her single There’s a Light, mastered by Grammy-nominated engineer Jeff Lipton, was featured on Spotify’s New Friday Christian playlist. Her music has been featured on prominent radio stations like NPR and “Boston’s Hottest Country,” with host Carolyn Kruse raving “Sweet but bold, Katie’s voice is reminiscent of one of her heroes, Jewel, but only deeper… A fearless spirit with a gentle touch.” Dobbins’ fall single Wild, written on the rocks at Marginal Way in Maine, sings of wild love that compels her to step outside of her comfort zone and toward the wild dreams in her heart. The track was mixed and mastered by Emmy-nominated producer Brian Coombes of Rocking Horse Studio (NH), whom Katie also produced her summer single Just Cause I Can with, and whom she is currently recording more music with to be released over the next several months.
Mike Morris
I call my music “FreeStyle Folk.” I began this little musical journey as a five year old. My older brother barricaded me in a closet and blasted Black Sabbath’s “Paranoid” over and over again. To this day I am still afraid of Michael “Ozzy” Osbourne. It took me about twenty years to realize that I didn’t much like loud music, but did like making a ruckus. I figured an acoustic guitar was a good, portable way to make a ruckus. I’m mostly a song and dance man. I make up songs and man, do I like to dance. Badly. It took me about two years to learn to play an F chord on the guitar, but I’ll take suggestions from the audience and make up a song in about five minutes. It might be great, or terrible, but we will all have a good time doing it.
Humans are naturally great creators: We can make up songs that never existed before. We can create other humans. We can tell stories that are one hundred percent true, and then tell a completely different story the next day.
The white noise of life can be deafening sometimes. I believe that live music, whether it’s on the back porch or the center stage, can bring us together, even if it’s for one song, one evening or one lifetime. I have a pretty simple motto in my life and in my music: “No matter who you are, what you do or what you believe, you are welcome here.” Let’s get together and see what happens!
Sue Horowitz – Soulful, heart-opening lyrical folk.
With a voice as warm as honey whiskey, and a vibe as confident as a tree with deep roots, Sue Horowitz writes songs about everyday struggles and joys and makes them meaningful and resonant. Her stories in song are poignant, heart-felt, hilarious, rousing, timely and timeless. With one foot planted firmly in the spiritual Jewish music world, and the other (relatively newly) planted in the new Folk world, Sue has 15 years of national touring experience, from large festivals to congregations to intimate house concerts. This Ithaca, NY and York Beach, ME artist has 5 albums of original music, and her latest album, “Strings, Wings and Curious Things” topped the Folk Radio Charts. Sue’s sound is a blend of Americana and Folk, while also drawing influences from blues and classic rock, making each song unique.
Notable appearances: Club Passim, Falcon Ridge Emerging Artist Showcase, DJ Showcases at NERFA and FARM, John Platt’s On Your Radar Rockwood Music Hall, Colorscapes Festival (with Autumn Sun Band), featured artist on Jon Stein’s Hootenanny Cafe
A Listening Room Experience
Hermit Woods is excited to bring talented artists from New England and beyond to perform for you. Each performance will provide you with an intimate, up-close, and personal experience with the performing artists. We ask our audience please refrain from talking during the featured show. Your silence will allow the artists and the audience to immerse themselves in the experience, which is not otherwise possible in larger, noisier environments.
