The Annual Loon Census
July 15 @ 08:00 – 09:00 EDT
Join us from Saturday, July 15th from 8:00–9:00 AM for the Annual Loon Census! During the Loon Census, LPC staff and volunteers fan out across the state of New Hampshire to simultaneously survey as many lakes as possible. This creates a ‘snapshot in time’ of New Hampshire’s loon population and provides lots of helpful information that complements the season-long monitoring conducted by LPC biologists throughout the summer, including:
a mid-season check on productivity,
a mechanism for discovering unknown birds in each territory,
a means to track movement of loons and define relationships between neighboring pairs, and
a community based tool for generating interest and involvement in loons.
More information, including census data forms, can be found here. If you’re not sure what lake you’d like to survey during the census, we can help you find one near you! Email firstname.lastname@example.org for more information.
