The Origins of Spooky Theater – Short Film Screenings at the Remick Country Doctor Museum & Farm, Tamworth NH

October 10 @ 12:30 pm - 1:30 pm
As an autumn chill settles over Tamworth Village, settle into your seat in our cozy Tourism Room theatre to experience the roots of film’s horror genre. Surrounded by the history of New Hampshire’s spookier tourism sites, watch a spellbinding mini-screening of short films from the turn of the 20th century that capture the earliest known attempts to thrill, chill, and mystify audiences. To begin, and between each vintage showing, receive brief insights about early filmmaking, exploring how these silent, eerie masterpieces laid the groundwork for modern spooky cinema and why they still matter to film history today.
Film selection will include, but is not limited to: The House of the Devil, 1896 | The Happy Skeleton, 1898 (the image illustrating this event uses a still from this movie)
Two half-hour screenings: 12:30 p.m. | 1:00 p.m.
The same shorts are shown for both screening times.
(Also available October 10 at the same times.)
