WILD CORN BACKCOUNTRY SHINDIG RETURNS FOR 7th YEAR WITH HEADLINE BAND PINK TALKING FISH
2-day backcountry ski festival kicks off March 31 at King Pine Ski Area in Madison, NH

Madison, New Hampshire; Feb. 21, 2023: Granite Backcountry Alliance (GBA), a nonprofit organization developing backcountry skiing terrain in New Hampshire and western Maine, will host its 7th annual Wild Corn Backcountry Shindig Friday March 31 – Sunday April 2, 2023, at King Pine Ski Area in Madison, New Hampshire. Presented by Fischer Skis, Wild Corn is a mountain takeover of King Pine where the lifts shut down and festival-goers have uphill access to enjoy human-powered skiing all weekend and a vibrant basecamp village with backcountry gear vendors, demo options, a variety of outdoor organizations, food and drink specials, and daily activities. This year, GBA is thrilled to welcome national touring act Pink Talking Fish to Wild Corn for Friday night and Saturday performances. The Pink Floyd/Talking Heads/Phish tribute band will play original song combinations from its namesakes and deliver great vibes from the stage to the slopes.

“The Wild Corn Backcountry Shindig is GBA’s legacy event that truly represents the vibrancy of the backcountry community, the excitement we share for human-powered adventure, and our desire to welcome everyone to explore the joys of uphill skiing in a safe and inviting environment,” said Tyler Ray, GBA Founder and Granite Chief. “Music naturally brings people together, and having Pink Talking Fish at Wild Corn to enhance community connection and celebration is going to make this year’s Shindig a one-of-a-kind experience for anyone who likes to slide around on our favorite kind of snow – fresh spring corn.”

On Friday evening, Wild Corn kicks off at 5 PM with skinning and skiing under the lights and two sets from Pink Talking Fish, starting at 7 PM with a rendition of Pink Floyd’s “Dark Side of the Moon” in its entirety to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the album. With food and a cash bar available, Friday night’s event is $20 for GBA Members and $30 for non-members, or can be purchased for the best rate as part of a full-weekend package ($55 for members, $65 for non-members). King Pine is offering a lodging special for anyone participating in Wild Corn for $99/night (+ resort fee and tax) double occupancy at Purity Spring Resort, with slopeside, mountainside, and lakeside lodging available, as well as car camping options.

The action continues Saturday, April 1, 2023, from 9 AM to dusk, with a variety of activities for any snow enthusiast, including all-you-can-ski uphill laps, backcountry demos (free with ticket), costume contests, auctions, raffles, and a second performance from Pink Talking Fish that will infuse the festival with high energy from the band’s classic combinations. The event will also host clinics including Rescue and Safety 101 by the NH Backcountry Ski Patrol, Backcountry Basics by Northeast Mountaineering, yoga by Mountain Kula Yoga, and a Kids CORNer hosted by Northeast Woodland, a public charter school focused on outdoor education.

The highlight of the day is always the unpredictable yet entertaining Wild Corn Skimo Race hosted by Jackson NH-based outfit Ski The Whites, which also offers backcountry rentals. Racers will skin up and ski down a unique course and have the opportunity to jump off the big “backcountry booter”, all to the delight of the crowd. The festival continues on Sunday with some final laps, vendors, and activities.

Tickets can be purchased at www.skireg.com/wildcorn for a discount or at the ticket booth on the day of the event at King Pine. Kids 10 and under are free to the Shindig.
