SUMMARY:Trails for Walking & Winter Activities at Canterbury Shaker Village\, Canterbury NH
DESCRIPTION:Canterbury Shaker Village in Canterbury\, New Hampshire\, features about 4 miles of walking trails with 5 mill ponds winding across its nearly 700-acre historic property.\nKey Trail Information\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPopular Routes: Includes the Mill Pond Trail (0.8 miles) and the Meadow Pond Trail (1.7 miles).\n\n\n\n\nLandscape: The paths meander through peaceful forests\, open fields\, and past historic ponds.\n\n\n\n\nTrail Map: You can view or download the official path layout directly from the Canterbury Shaker Village Trail Map page.\n\n\n\n\nAccess: Exploring the grounds and trails is part of the experience at the Canterbury Shaker Village Official Site.\n\nThe Village grounds and trails are open every day\, year-round from dawn to dusk\, and free to visit. Maps are available at the kiosk under the breezeway adjacent to the parking area. You can view the Village Map and Trail Map online ahead of your visit. \nThe best marked trail takes visitors around Turning Mill Pond\, where they can see the historic Pump House\, beaver dams and human dams\, and enjoy the flora and fauna of this beautiful and serene site. The trail takes about 30 minutes to walk. \n\n \n  \n\nWhile the historic buildings are closed for regular museum tours during the winter months\, the sprawling property transforms into a quiet winter wonderland. The site features nearly 700 acres of protected forests\, open pastures\, and scenic mill ponds under permanent conservation easement\, offering an incredibly peaceful and historic backdrop for winter recreation.\n\n\n\nWhat to Expect on the Trails\n \n\n\n\n\nUngroomed Trails: The village provides 4  miles of nature trails. However\, trails are not mechanically groomed for cross-country skiing. It is entirely a “make your own tracks” or backcountry Nordic skiing experience. If you love uncrowded\, pristine snow\, this is a gem.\n\n \n\n\n\nFree and Open to the Public: The grounds and trails are open year-round from dawn to dusk at no charge. You can easily park and head right out into the fields.\n\n \n\n\n\nTrail Layout: Popular winter loops include the short\, family-friendly Turning Mill Pond Loop (about 1.7 miles) and the Carding Mill Trail. Both options take you past scenic historic stone dams\, frozen ponds\, and snow-laden woods.\n\n \n\n\n\nNo On-Site Rentals: There are no ski or snowshoe rentals available at the property. You must bring your own gear.\n\nCanterbury Shaker Village /  288 Shaker Rd.  /  Canterbury NH

SUMMARY:A Favorable Forecast Keeps the Cog Climbing - Mount Washington Cog Railway\, Mt. Washington NH
DESCRIPTION:When the mountain offers an opportunity\, the Mount Washington Cog Railway is ready to climb. With favorable weather predicted this week\, the railway is quickly adjusting its Post-Season Schedule and starting two-hour round-trip excursions to the summit of Mount Washington\, continuing through Sunday\, November 1. \nThe Cog had originally scheduled mid-mountain trips to Waumbek Station during this period. Now\, with the improving forecast\, those same departures will travel to the summit instead. Mid-mountain excursions to Waumbek Station are scheduled to resume next week. \nThe change reflects the railway’s ability to turn a favorable forecast into an opportunity for visitors. By adjusting destinations while keeping departure times unchanged\, the Cog can extend its summit season without requiring guests to rearrange their travel plans. \nDaily departures will be offered at: \n\n9:00 a.m.\n10:15 a.m.\n11:30 a.m.\n12:45 p.m.\n2:00 p.m.\n3:00 p.m.\n\nGuests should note that the New Hampshire State Park visitor center at the summit will remain closed to the public during this extended service period\, although park staff will be on site. \nSummit excursions are scheduled through November 1\, with operations subject to mountain weather conditions. For complete information\, schedule\, tickets and much more\, visit thecog.com \n\nMount Washington Cog Railway\n\n3168 Base Station Road \nMount Washington\, NH 03589 \n603.278.2255

Kearsarge Indian Museum is open for the 2026 season with expanded accessibility improvements and a full slate of programs highlighting Native American history\, art\, and culture. \nHeadlining the season is a new exhibit\, Quills & Beads: Adornment that Adapts\, curated by Sterling Gross. Tracing the evolution of Native American adornment—from traditional porcupine quillwork to the intricate beadwork that emerged following the introduction of European glass beads—the exhibit features rare pieces on public display for the first time. \n“Our new exhibit invites visitors to look closely at the artistry\, but also at the adaptation and resilience these pieces represent\,” said Executive Director Andrew Bullock. “Quillwork and beadwork are living traditions\, and we’re honored to share this collection with our community and with visitors traveling the Museum Trail this season.” \nIn addition to the new exhibit\, the museum has completed several accessibility upgrades ahead of opening day. The Medicine Woods Trail—an outdoor walking path featuring plants traditionally used by Native peoples for food\, medicine\, and craft—is now fully accessible to wheelchairs and strollers. Renovations to on-site restrooms and pathways have also been completed to better serve visitors of all abilities. \nMt. Kearsarge Indian Museum is one of nearly two dozen museums on the NH Heritage Museum Trail\, which features members in the Lakes Region\, White Mountains\, Dartmouth-Sunapee Region\, Merrimack Valley\, and Seacoast. SUMMARY:From Sails to Atoms: The Portsmouth Naval Shipyard Exhibit - Wright Museum of World War II\, Wolfeboro NH
DESCRIPTION:  \nFROM SAILS TO ATOMS: THE PORTSMOUTH NAVAL SHIPYARD \nTEMPORARY EXHIBIT \n\n\nIn celebration of the 250th anniversary of the United States\, the Wright Museum will be highlighting one of New England’s most enduring contributions to the nation’s history: the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard. \nOfficially established as a federal navy yard in 1800\, but the home of shipbuilding as early as the 1600s\, PNSY has a long and storied history. In it’s early days\, notable ships such as the USS Washington and USS Congress were built there. In 1855\, the shipyard was also responsible for the overhaul of “Old Ironsides\,” the USS Constitution. \nThe first submarine built at the shipyard was the USS L-8 in 1917. During World War II\, the shipyard’s production of submarines was prolific\, tallying more than 70 subs\, including a record 4 launched in a single day. In the Cold War era\, the yard was also home to the construction of the revolutionary USS Albacore\, the first teardrop-hull submarine. \nFeaturing vivid images and unique interactive activities\, this special exhibit will explore all of this history\, and more! \nExhibit runs May 1 – October 31\, 2026. \nPhoto:  The USS Shad is launched at Portsmouth Naval Shipyard on April 15\, 1942.
