This year\, Castle in the Clouds will debut a new exhibition\, From Private Estate to Public Treasure: Lucknow after Thomas and Olive Plant. This exhibit features stories\, photographs\, and memorabilia of the various owners of the Lucknow Estate before the Castle Preservation Society (CPS) was founded in 2006 to manage the estate as a public attraction and museum. \nThis year marks the 20th anniversary of CPS\, which is responsible for the ongoing care and restoration of the Lucknow Mansion and Estate. “This is a pivotal year for the Castle Preservation Society since we are concluding our current strategic plan and continuing to plan for the future of Castle in the Clouds\,” said Charles Clark\, Executive Director of CPS. “Our entire team of staff\, board and volunteers are extremely proud of all we have accomplished in the past 20 years\, including the significant renovations to the Lucknow Estate which are either complete or scheduled for completion this year.” \nIn 2025\, the U.S. Department of the Interior designated the Lucknow Estate as a National Historic Landmark (NHL). An NHL designation is the highest federal recognition of a property’s historical\, architectural or archaeological significance. This designation for the Lucknow Estate is a testament to the efforts of CPS and the Lakes Region Conservation Trust to care for the property. \nThroughout this season\, Castle in the Clouds will offer 200+ public program sessions\, including classes and workshops\, a presentation on the history of Ossipee Park\, a production of Romeo and Juliet from Advice to the Players\, and many other community events. The full calendar of programs and events can be found on the Castle in the Clouds website. \nThe 2026 season runs from May 23 to October 25. The property is open to visitors daily. Guests are encouraged to enter the property via the Historic Entrance. The original driveway to the Estate was repaved at the end of 2025\, and provides an amazing introductory experience to any Castle visit. Before moving to the Lakes District last May\, she lived and worked as a full-time artist and teacher in the Berkshires of Western Massachusetts. She especially loves painting scenes of bustling towns and historic settings….and if there is snow involved\, all the better.  Over the years\, painting portraits of homes has become her specialty. “After leaving a high-tech career in 1994\, I had no idea a new career in art would be in my future. I just knew I loved creating and wanted to learn as much as I could. A few lessons at the local art school eventually led to taking all the art courses at the community college\, and then years of practice.  That’s how it started. Moving from Minnesota 25 years ago and finding that special place in the Lakes Region has me feeling fortunate to share my work and connect with other artists in the community. \nI studied art in college\, however it was not until I was raising 3 young boys in a Minnesota winter that I found my way back to painting. The Danforth Museum School and Boston Guild Artist\, William Bartlett have given me the great foundations of painting that make this such a great creative life journey for me.

This exhibit features stories\, photographs\, and memorabilia of the various owners of the Lucknow Estate before the Castle Preservation Society (CPS) was founded in 2006 to manage the estate as a public attraction and museum. \nThis year marks the 20th anniversary of CPS\, which is responsible for the ongoing care and restoration of the Lucknow Mansion and Estate. “This is a pivotal year for the Castle Preservation Society since we are concluding our current strategic plan and continuing to plan for the future of Castle in the Clouds\,” said Charles Clark\, Executive Director of CPS. “Our entire team of staff\, board and volunteers are extremely proud of all we have accomplished in the past 20 years\, including the significant renovations to the Lucknow Estate which are either complete or scheduled for completion this year.” \nIn 2025\, the U.S. Department of the Interior designated the Lucknow Estate as a National Historic Landmark (NHL). An NHL designation is the highest federal recognition of a property’s historical\, architectural or archaeological significance. This designation for the Lucknow Estate is a testament to the efforts of CPS and the Lakes Region Conservation Trust to care for the property. \nThroughout this season\, Castle in the Clouds will offer 200+ public program sessions\, including classes and workshops\, a presentation on the history of Ossipee Park\, a production of Romeo and Juliet from Advice to the Players\, and many other community events. Guests are encouraged to enter the property via the Historic Entrance. Tracing the evolution of Native American adornment—from traditional porcupine quillwork to the intricate beadwork that emerged following the introduction of European glass beads—the exhibit features rare pieces on public display for the first time. \n“Our new exhibit invites visitors to look closely at the artistry\, but also at the adaptation and resilience these pieces represent\,” said Executive Director Andrew Bullock. “Quillwork and beadwork are living traditions\, and we’re honored to share this collection with our community and with visitors traveling the Museum Trail this season.” \nIn addition to the new exhibit\, the museum has completed several accessibility upgrades ahead of opening day. The Medicine Woods Trail—an outdoor walking path featuring plants traditionally used by Native peoples for food\, medicine\, and craft—is now fully accessible to wheelchairs and strollers. We invite you and your family to visit anytime between dawn and dusk\, May 23rd through June 6th\, to enjoy a fun\, family-friendly scavenger hunt that will take you on an exciting journey around our beautiful property.\nThis scavenger hunt highlights key locations throughout Castle in the Clouds. This scavenger hunt utilizes the PlayTours app. Upon registration\, you’ll receive a link to the scavenger hunt.\nPlease note:All members of your group must be included in photo submissions. Full details and rules will be provided at the beginning of the scavenger hunt\, so please take a moment to read them carefully.\nNo locations require admission to Castle in the Clouds.\nSubmit your photos by 4 pm Saturday\, June 6th. Submissions will be reviewed by staff for approval.\nAwards for completion and participation will be handed out at the  Awards Ceremony on Sunday\, June 7\, 2026. The Awards Ceremony will be held on the first floor of the Carriage House. Come by between 1:00 PM and 2:00 PM to hang out with other scavenger hunt teams.\n\n\nGetting Here & Parking \n\nWhile you can sign up online\, the Carriage House will operate as the base. The Carriage House is a brief walk from the parking lot. DESCRIPTION:Visitors can look forward to spectacular views of Lake Winnipesaukee and daily tours of the restored Lucknow Mansion. This year\, Castle in the Clouds will debut a new exhibition\, From Private Estate to Public Treasure: Lucknow after Thomas and Olive Plant. This exhibit features stories\, photographs\, and memorabilia of the various owners of the Lucknow Estate before the Castle Preservation Society (CPS) was founded in 2006 to manage the estate as a public attraction and museum. \nThis year marks the 20th anniversary of CPS\, which is responsible for the ongoing care and restoration of the Lucknow Mansion and Estate. “This is a pivotal year for the Castle Preservation Society since we are concluding our current strategic plan and continuing to plan for the future of Castle in the Clouds\,” said Charles Clark\, Executive Director of CPS. “Our entire team of staff\, board and volunteers are extremely proud of all we have accomplished in the past 20 years\, including the significant renovations to the Lucknow Estate which are either complete or scheduled for completion this year.” \nIn 2025\, the U.S. Department of the Interior designated the Lucknow Estate as a National Historic Landmark (NHL). An NHL designation is the highest federal recognition of a property’s historical\, architectural or archaeological significance. This designation for the Lucknow Estate is a testament to the efforts of CPS and the Lakes Region Conservation Trust to care for the property. \nThroughout this season\, Castle in the Clouds will offer 200+ public program sessions\, including classes and workshops\, a presentation on the history of Ossipee Park\, a production of Romeo and Juliet from Advice to the Players\, and many other community events. The full calendar of programs and events can be found on the Castle in the Clouds website. \nThe 2026 season runs from May 23 to October 25. The property is open to visitors daily. Guests are encouraged to enter the property via the Historic Entrance. The original driveway to the Estate was repaved at the end of 2025\, and provides an amazing introductory experience to any Castle visit. Onsite tickets are available for purchase beginning at 10:00 am daily\, or online tickets can be purchased in advance. The Gift Shop\, Carriage House and Exhibit Gallery open at 10:00 am and trolley service to the mansion begins at 10:15 am. Lunch is served in the Carriage House restaurant daily from 11:30 am until 3:30 pm. In addition to self-guided mansion tours\, a limited number of tickets for guided tours of Lucknow Mansion and the Lucknow Mansion Basement are also available for those seeking an in-depth and behind-the-scenes experience. Moving from Minnesota 25 years ago and finding that special place in the Lakes Region has me feeling fortunate to share my work and connect with other artists in the community. \nI studied art in college\, however it was not until I was raising 3 young boys in a Minnesota winter that I found my way back to painting. The Danforth Museum School and Boston Guild Artist\, William Bartlett have given me the great foundations of painting that make this such a great creative life journey for me.
