SUMMARY:I Lichen Fungi - Squam Lakes Associaiton\, Holderness NH
DESCRIPTION:Today’s Adventure Ecology:\nWe will hike 2.0 miles through Belknap woods ID-ing\, admiring and learning about the fungi we see. Mushrooms love wet weather and spring temperature so come prepared for some awesome finds. Participants will gain an understanding of the life cycle and life strategies fungi have for reproducing and surviving as well as appreciating the diversity found in northeastern forests. \nMushrooms are very critical in maintaining the balance of nutrients in an ecosystem\, mycorrhizal fungi are associated with 95% of plants in the forest and keep our plants green and healthy. We will see examples of this and many other life strategies of mushrooms on our hike. By the end of this program you will be able to appreciate fungi for more than just their looks and be able to ID a couple species! \nAll ages are welcome. Children must be accompanied by adults. \nRegister now\n\n\n\nLocation\nSquam Lakes Association\nWe will carpool to Belknap Woods due to limited parking.\nSquam Lakes Association\n\n\n534 US Route 3\nHolderness\, NH 03245

SUMMARY:Marion Miles Remick Bird Hike - Remick Country Doctor Museum & Farm\, Tamworth NH
DESCRIPTION:Experience Remick from the “chirp” seats.\nDuring this guided walk\, you’ll discover the important role the Remick property has played in the lives of migratory birds. \nMarion Miles Remick (1906–1980) lived on this site from her marriage to Doc Remick in 1929 until her death in 1980. In addition to her interests in flower gardening\, cats\, and horse racing\, Marion was an avid bird watcher. \nMarion’s interest in birding may have been encouraged by the grounds where she once lived\, which provide a sweeping landscape and a variety of bird habitats\, including forests\, fields and open water. Avid birders have spotted at least 84 bird species on the Remick grounds — see a sample list on eBird. Come and learn more about Marion and the birds of Remick Farm with your interpretive guide while hiking across the expansive property. \nThe anniversary of Marion’s birthday takes place on May 28 — 119 years ago. This activity is one way we honor her contribution to our site’s history\, often overshadowed by our wider story. \nActivity length: 60 minutes.\nTerrain: gravel paths\, uneven grassy fields\, inclines.\nBinoculars are recommended; dress for outdoor weather and farm conditions underfoot. \nFREE for members\, $5 suggested donation for nonmembers.\nFor ages 16+\, ages 17 and under must be accompanied by an adult.\nFor more information\, call (603) 323-7591. \nThis activity is part of our Spring on the Farm schedule. \n \nMarion’s birding guides — complete with handwritten notes — and binoculars can be seen in her office area of the mid-century-style apartment she shared with her husband\, Doc Remick. \nRELATED ACTIVITIES\n \nA deeper dive into Marion’s world: \n+ Visit the Marion Miles Remick Memorial Garden\, enclosed by a white picket fence and located in front of the Museum Barn. \n+ Walk through the modest 2nd-floor apartment Marion shared with Doc Remick for 51 years (including her small kitchen—complete with a wood stove\, her hallway office\, and the handpainted “wallpaper” she commissioned for their den). The apartment is located in the Museum Center. \nRemick Country Doctor Museum & Farm / 58 Cleveland Hill Road / Tamworth NH \n

SUMMARY:Guided Vernal Pool Hike with Newfound Lake Region Association - Sugarloaf Ridge-Goose Pond Conservation Area\, Bristol NH
DESCRIPTION:Join Newfound Lake Region Association (NLRA) Education & Outreach Manager Mirka Zapletal for a spring hike Friday\, May 16th in Sugarloaf Ridge-Goose Pond Conservation Area at 1pm looking for the spring breeding pools used by frogs and salamanders. On the first warm\, rainy night of spring local amphibians are on the move to find mates and lay eggs. Weeks later\, their efforts have paid off\, but there is limited time for this year’s young to grow before the vernal pools they depend on dry up. Participants will hike the Goose Pond Trail and Goose Pond-Elwell Link\, an approximately 3 mile hike with some steep or muddy sections\, looking for vernal pools\, the amphibians who use them\, and other local wildlife. Registration is required and space is limited.  Register online at NewfoundLake.org/events or call 603-744-8689. \nNLRA works to protect the habitats and high-quality waters of Newfound Lake and its watershed\, maintaining a healthy and diverse ecosystem.  Along with educational programming like guided hikes and paddles\, NLRA monitors water quality\, conserves land\, manages stormwater pollution\, and monitors for invasive species.  For more than 50 years NLRA has been protecting Newfound Lake\, and the results of that conservation are as clear as Newfound’s water.  You can learn more about NLRA’s initiatives at NewfoundLake.org. \nSugarloaf Ridge-Goose Pond Conservation Area\n60 West Shore Rd\, Bristol\, NH
