SUMMARY:Newfound Science Pub | From Sound to Science: Using Acoustics to Understand Moose and Bat Populations in New Hampshire - Newfound Conservation Alliance at Newfound Lake Inn\, Bridgewater NH
DESCRIPTION:Newfound Science Pub | From Sound to Science: Using Acoustics to Understand Moose and Bat Populations in New Hampshire \nNEWFOUND CONSERVATION ALLIANCE \nWednesday\, October 21\, 2026\n5 PM – 7 PM \nTo Register go to: https://wl.donorperfect.net/weblink/weblink.aspx?name=E343401&id=278 \nat Newfound Lake Inn\n1030 Mayhew Turnpike\, Bridgewater\, NH (directions) \nDinner and drinks available from 5pm. Program begins at 6pm. \nWhat can the sounds of wildlife tell us about the animals that make them? Bioacoustics\, an expanding field of science\, uses sound and acoustic technology to help researchers understand wildlife populations—including where animals live\, how they use their habitat\, and when important life stages occur. \nJoin us for an evening exploring how researchers at the University of New Hampshire are using sound to study two of New Hampshire’s fascinating mammals. Sandesh Lamichhane\, a PhD student at UNH\, will share how he is using moose vocalizations to better understand their habitat use and movement patterns. Following his presentation\, Megan Graham\, a Master’s student at UNH\, will explain how bat echolocation can help researchers determine when different life stages occur at maternity roosts. \nCome discover how listening to wildlife can provide scientists with valuable insights into the health and behavior of New Hampshire’s moose and bat populations. \nAbout Sandesh Lamicchane:\nBorn in the remote hills of western Nepal\, mountains and wildlife were part of Sandesh’s everyday life. His love for higher altitudes lead him to study snow leopards during his undergraduate and Master’s degree where he tracked Himalayan populations through the mountains. That same curiosity brought Sandesh to the University of New Hampshire\, where he began his PhD and started following another iconic species\, ‘Moooooose’. He traded snow leopards for moose\, but not the wildlife\, mountains\, and forests. Currently\, he is studying moose where he uses acoustic techniques to explore their vocal behavior and habitat use patterns. \nAbout Megan Graham:\nMegan is a graduate student at the University of New Hampshire studying how we can use acoustic methods to monitor bat populations. Originally from Connecticut\, she graduated from the University of Connecticut with a Bachelor’s degree in natural resources and the environment in 2023. After graduation\, she worked with the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection to assist with different wildlife research projects involving black bears\, fishers\, bobcats\, but spent the most time working with bats! She joined UNH in 2025 to further this interest and develop new acoustic strategies to further bat conservation. \nAbout Newfound Science Pub:\nNewfound Science Pub is an interactive way to connect with experts in science and conservation. Discuss current issues\, ask your burning questions\, and share your perspective while enjoying food and drinks in a casual\, social setting. Space is limited and advance registration is required. This event is free to attend. Attendees purchase food and drinks. Review the menu.

SUMMARY:Founder's Library Wine Tasting - Seven Birches Winery\, Lincoln NH
DESCRIPTION:Join the founding winemaker\, Mark LaClair\, for a small-group wine sampling from the cellar library. The “library” is simply a set of wines that are no longer available for public tasting. They are only available for sale. \nMark will take you for a brief walk through the cellar\, then bring you into the Birch Room (private room off the main tasting room) for a sampling of 4 (predetermined) wines from the library rack. This one-on-one experience with Mark is very educational as much as it is entertaining. It is a great opportunity to ask all of those burning wine questions and to sample legacy Seven Birches Wines that the general public does not get to try. \n\nBrief walk through the wine cellar to see the equipment and activity of the day.\nOne-on-one (small group) time with Mark\, the founding winemaker of Seven Birches Winery.\nSample 4 wines from the “Library” – a set of wines off-limits to the general public.\nWine tasting and grape variety education.\nOpportunity to purchase library wines at a 10% discount.\n\n\nDo you enjoy wine tasting at wineries\, but always find yourself looking for something a bit deeper\, a bit more educational\, that includes off-menu wines? However\, many customers want a little bit more. They are searching for unique experiences that will linger in their memories for a lifetime. \nFounding winemaker\, Mark LaClair\, has spent his entire career creating experiences for people\, whether through the wines he crafted\, events that he produced\, or simply tasting experiences in the Seven Birches Winery tasting room. Now\, Mark has agreed to open his schedule for some direct\, one-on-one time. His wine knowledge\, presentation style\, and charismatic personality is what the tasting room is modeled after. He wanted everyone to experience wine with friends and family\, and to learn a little something along the way. Now you can experience all of this directly with him and in a way that elevates the wine tasting experience as a whole. \nThe fee you are paying for this experience certainly covers the cost of the wine tasting. SUMMARY:Chromatic Nature Exhibit - McLane Center in Concord NH
DESCRIPTION:Chromatic Nature Acrylic Painting Exhibit by Tracy Levesque: September 2-October 24 at the McLane Center in Concord \nArt exhibit viewing access may be restricted during private event rentals. Calling ahead to confirm is recommended.  603-224-9909 \nThe exhibit will feature a curated collection of Levesque’s vibrant acrylic paintings of New England’s incredible nature\, landscape and wildlife. \n  \n\n\n\n\nTracy Levesque Bio/Process: Tracy Levesque’s chromatic acrylic paintings blur the line between fine art and illustration. Reminiscent of stained glass\, each painting is constructed of translucent layers of paint\, three dimensionally sculpted and carved palette knife texture and delicate fine line brush detail. Levesque’s stunning visual style creates a dramatic interplay between fantasy and bold realism inviting viewers to engage with the intricacies of the natural world and the profoundly spiritual nature of landscape. \nLevesque’s work challenges conventional perceptions of reality transforming her art into a dynamic experience that shifts the viewer’s perspective. Each piece commands the viewer to look at nature as an infinite collection of details\, an organic managerie of patterns and shapes that come together to create an awe-inspiring story. Levesque’s paintings are more than just painted representations on canvas\, they are love songs to nature and an invitation to the viewer to take a thoughtful journey into how we perceive our surroundings. \nTracy Levesque is a New England based fine artist who was born in the beautiful Berkshire Hills of Western Massachusetts and is currently working out of her studio at Western Avenue Studios in the Merrimack Valley in Lowell\, Massachusetts. Levesque graduated from Brandeis University with honors in Theater Arts and English and American Literature. She is an amateur naturalist and an award winning artist that has been exhibiting her work nationally for over 30 years. \nYou can see more of her work online at: \n\nWebsite: www.tracylevesque.net\nInstagram: @birchlady\nBluesky: @birchlady\nFacebook: @tracylevesquefinearts\n\n\n\n\n\n\nMcLane Center\n\n84 Silk Farm Road\nConcord\, NH

SUMMARY:From Sails to Atoms: The Portsmouth Naval Shipyard Exhibit - Wright Museum of World War II\, Wolfeboro NH
DESCRIPTION:  \nFROM SAILS TO ATOMS: THE PORTSMOUTH NAVAL SHIPYARD \nTEMPORARY EXHIBIT \n\n\nIn celebration of the 250th anniversary of the United States\, the Wright Museum will be highlighting one of New England’s most enduring contributions to the nation’s history: the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard. \nOfficially established as a federal navy yard in 1800\, but the home of shipbuilding as early as the 1600s\, PNSY has a long and storied history. In it’s early days\, notable ships such as the USS Washington and USS Congress were built there. In 1855\, the shipyard was also responsible for the overhaul of “Old Ironsides\,” the USS Constitution. \nThe first submarine built at the shipyard was the USS L-8 in 1917. During World War II\, the shipyard’s production of submarines was prolific\, tallying more than 70 subs\, including a record 4 launched in a single day. In the Cold War era\, the yard was also home to the construction of the revolutionary USS Albacore\, the first teardrop-hull submarine. \nFeaturing vivid images and unique interactive activities\, this special exhibit will explore all of this history\, and more! \nExhibit runs May 1 – October 31\, 2026. \nPhoto:  The USS Shad is launched at Portsmouth Naval Shipyard on April 15\, 1942. Tracing the evolution of Native American adornment—from traditional porcupine quillwork to the intricate beadwork that emerged following the introduction of European glass beads—the exhibit features rare pieces on public display for the first time. \n“Our new exhibit invites visitors to look closely at the artistry\, but also at the adaptation and resilience these pieces represent\,” said Executive Director Andrew Bullock. “Quillwork and beadwork are living traditions\, and we’re honored to share this collection with our community and with visitors traveling the Museum Trail this season.” \nIn addition to the new exhibit\, the museum has completed several accessibility upgrades ahead of opening day. The Medicine Woods Trail—an outdoor walking path featuring plants traditionally used by Native peoples for food\, medicine\, and craft—is now fully accessible to wheelchairs and strollers. Renovations to on-site restrooms and pathways have also been completed to better serve visitors of all abilities. \nMt. Kearsarge Indian Museum is one of nearly two dozen museums on the NH Heritage Museum Trail\, which features members in the Lakes Region\, White Mountains\, Dartmouth-Sunapee Region\, Merrimack Valley\, and Seacoast.
