SUMMARY:Volunteer: Water Quality Day - Squam Lake Association\, Holderness NH
DESCRIPTION:When: Sunday\, August 3\, from 9 am – 3 pm\nWhere: Squam Lakes Association\, 534 Us Route 3\, Holderness NH 03245 \nThe Squam Lakes Association’s water-quality data set is the oldest in the northeast\, and we need YOU to help keep it going. Volunteer water quality monitoring is a great way to get involved in the Squam community\, get outside\, and contribute to important research. Join us to collect a water column sample and a data profile at two of our monitoring sites on Sunday\, August 3\, from 9am – 3 pm. \nThe purpose of this excursion is to get folks out on the water and show them how the SLA and its volunteers collect water quality data. Participants will get hands-on experience using our equipment from the boat. We will meet at the SLA headquarters and then head out to Loon Reef and Moultonborough Bay to complete two water samples. Once we’re finished\, we will dock on Moon or Bowman Island to eat lunch and take in the scenic views. For more information\, or to sign up for this volunteer program\, visit the SLA website (squamlakes.org) or contact the SLA directly (603-968-7336). \nThe SLA has been building its water quality data set since 1978. Our volunteer network is crucial to gathering samples and measurements at our deep-water monitoring sites across the watershed. Water quality data informs our understanding of the watershed and helps direct the actions we take to conserve it. Each site offers unique insights into the lake’s health\, so every location counts. \nThe Squam Lakes Association is dedicated to conserving for public benefit the natural beauty\, peaceful character and resources of the watershed. In collaboration with local and state partners the SLA promotes the protection\, careful use and shared enjoyment of the lakes\, mountains\, forests\, open spaces and wildlife of the Squam Lakes Region. \nPicture:  Hunter Hine\, Volunteer Program Assistant LRCC – SLA

SUMMARY:Power and Propulsion Exhibit(Showcasing A Unique Fleet of Ice Boats) - NH Boat Museum\, Moultonborough NH
DESCRIPTION:This season\, we are thrilled to showcase a unique fleet of ice boats as part of our Power and Propulsion exhibit!  These sleek wind-driven vessels are a passion of NHBM volunteers Charlie Silfvenius and Anne Louise Rowe\, who were instrumental in the design of this year’s display. \nIce sailboats\, powered by the wind\, can achieve speeds significantly higher than the wind speed at which they are sailing. This is largely due to the friction-free surface of ice\, which can allow the boat to sail up to 5 times the wind speed. \nA few fun facts: \n\nIce boats do not have keels but instead sit on “runners” or skates\nTop speed have reached 140 mph\nIce boats have no brakes. To stop\, they turn into the wind and release the tension on the sail\n\nVisit the Museum this summer to discover the world of ice boating and explore the many fascinating ways boats are propelled! \nHours for the season as of June 17: \n            June 17\, 2025 to September 28\, 2025 \nWednesday – Saturday 10am – 4pm \nSunday 12pm – 4pm \nOctober 3 – October 12\, 2025 \nFriday – Saturday 10am – 4pm \nSunday 12pm – 4pm \n\n\n\n\nAdmission and Hours \n130 Whittier Hwy (Rte 25)\nMoultonborough\, NH 03254
