SUMMARY:History of the Abenaki Tower - Historical Society of Ossipee- Program at The Masonic Lodge #74\, Ossipee NH
DESCRIPTION:The history of the Abenaki Tower.  It is the 100th anniversary of this fire tower maintained by Melvin Village. \nOur 2024 programs will be held at the Masonic Lodge on Route 25E\, across from Abbott’s and Staples gas station\, unless otherwise noted.  Doors will be open by 10:30am\, closed at 11:15.   See\, it pays to join!!  If you’re not a member\, come early & join.  Members may check in at that time.  The 2023 programs were very interesting & informative\, but not well attended. So\, we are going to try something new in 2024. “Have a light lunch on us!” —we are going to cater to members\, during the daylight hours on the 2nd Tuesday of the month.  The Masonic Lodge\, Route 25E\, is once again graciously donating their meeting room & kitchen. Watch for our sign at the end of their driveway (across from Abbott & Staples gas station). We are hoping that this will solve the “I can’t drive at night” and that the older residents will be able to come to enjoy it all\, since the newcomers and the visitors don’t seem to care & don’t want to attend and everyone likes food! \n\n\n\nBecome a member\n\n\nJoin us by paying dues.  It’s only $20pp.  Donations are also welcome.  Dues are good from now until the Annual Meeting on October 8\, 2024.  Since we don’t have any activities from Oct.-June\, you haven’t missed anything in 2024.  (that’s why it’s not much money!) \n\n\n\n\n\n\nMembers Luncheon\n\n\nDoors will be closed at 11:15. \nYou may check in with our Treasurer & either get checked off as a member or you may pay the dues to join & be eligible to hear the speaker\, enjoy the program & join us for the luncheon that will follow.  Or you may bring your own lunch & join us. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nAmounts\n\n\n$20-individual \n$40-dual or family \n$150-Lifetime member  \n\n\n\n\n\n\nPublic\n\n\nThe public is always welcome to our programs\, paying dues at the door to enjoy the luncheon with us after the program or bring a lunch.  Any and all donations are gratefully accepted. \n\n\nThe Masonic Lodge #74\, 535 Rte. 25 East(Ossipee Trail) Across from Abbott’s and Staples Gas Station(Handicap accessible at rear door). \n\n  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n

SUMMARY:Guided Hike: Elwell Trail to Bear Mountain - Meet at Grey Rocks Conservation Area\, Hebron NH
DESCRIPTION:Join the Newfound Lake Region Association (NLRA) for a guided hike in Newfound Watershed conserved lands on Bear Mountain on August 16 at 9am. Land conservation is one of the best ways to protect the health of Newfound Lake. NLRA has worked with the Newfound Land Conservation Partnership (NLCP) to increase the amount of conserved land in the watershed\, and this hike will take participants through some of the watershed’s publicly accessible conserved lands. Led by NLRA volunteers and staff\, participants will explore parts of the Elwell Trail heading east to Bear Mountain\, see views of the lake to the south\, and get a new perspective on keeping the watershed healthy. This moderate\, approximately 4 mile hike has a few rocky scrambles and up-and-down sections at the top.  Registration is required and space is limited. Register online at NewfoundLake.org/events or call 603-744-8689. \nThe NLCP is a collaboration among NLRA\, the Society for the Protection of NH Forests\, the Lakes Region Conservation Trust\, the Nature Conservancy\, and volunteer representatives from the towns of Hebron\, Groton\, Bristol\, Bridgewater\, and Alexandria. Since 2009\, the Partnership has worked to promote land conservation within the Newfound Watershed through education and community outreach and has supported efforts to conserve nearly 8500 acres. Learn more about conservation in the Newfound Watershed and why land conservation is important at NewfoundLake.org/NLCP. \nLand conservation is an important part of NLRA’s work to protect the high-quality waters of Newfound Lake and its watershed\, maintaining a healthy and diverse ecosystem.  Through water quality and invasive species monitoring\, educational events such as guided hikes and nature activities\, and land conservation efforts that protect open spaces and help manage stormwater pollution\, NLRA approaches conservation at the watershed level.  You can learn more about NLRA’s initiatives at NewfoundLake.org. \nParticipants meet at Grey Rocks Conservation Area\n178 North Shore Rd\, Hebron
