Center Harbor\, NH 03226 \nOn Sunday\, June 15\, from 10:00 am – 12:00 pm\, the Squam Lakes Association (SLA) will host a 2.5 mile hike around Chamberlain Reynolds where LRCC member Emma Murray will teach about tree pathogens. We will cover topics like\, decays\, wilts\, cankers\, foliar pathogens and certain fungi. On the hike we will see examples of these pathogens in their natural environment\, learn key characteristics\, and how arborists can manage for them. If you have trees on your land that you think are diseased come with questions! \nNew Hampshire is the second most forested state in the nation\, so understanding pests and pathogens found in our forest is important in maintaining their health and beauty. You’ll learn that culling trees\, creating boundaries and pruning at certain times are ways to manage pests along with being careful about where you source your firewood. This hike will also cover the basics of tree ID as that is useful in determining host specific pathogens. Mainly this hike is about getting out in the woods and seeing the health\, not just the beauty. Come join us as we explore the world of disease pathology. \nFor more information\, or to sign up for this Adventure Ecology program\, visit the SLA website (squamlakes.org) or contact the SLA directly (603-968-7336). The SLA also offers other Adventure Ecology programs throughout the year. These free programs are open to the public and cover a variety of nature and conservation related topics.
