SUMMARY:Lecture Series: Elyse Graham – Book and Dagger – How Scholars and Librarians became the unlikely Spies of WWII - Wright Museum of WW II\, Wolfeboro NH
DESCRIPTION:Elyse Graham – Book and Dagger – How Scholars and Librarians became the unlikely Spies of WWII \n\n\nElyse Graham will discuss the untold story of the academics who became OSS spies\, invented modern spycraft\, and helped turn the tide of the war. \nAt the start of WWII\, the U.S. found itself in desperate need of an intelligence agency. The Office of Strategic Services (OSS)\, a precursor to today’s CIA\, was quickly formed—and\, in an effort to fill its ranks with experts\, the OSS turned to academia for recruits. Suddenly\, literature professors\, librarians\, and historians were training to perform undercover operations and investigative work—and these surprising spies would go on to profoundly shape both the course of the war and our cultural institutions with their efforts. \nElyse Graham is an American writer and historian\, author of 4 books and teaches at Stony Brook University. \n\n\nAdmission is $12.00 per person for non-members and $8.00 for Wright Museum Members\, unless otherwise noted. The programs will be held in the DuQuoin Education Center on the first floor.  We strongly encourage you to reserve seats well ahead of time by calling 603-569-1212\, payment is due at time reservation is made\, or by booking online for each program. \nMost programs begin at 7:00 p.m. and take place at the Museum unless otherwise noted. The Museum’s doors open one hour before programs begin. Please check our website for schedule changes because of unforeseen circumstances. \nThe Wright Museum has partnered with the Country Bookseller in Wolfeboro to make books by 2025 Education Series authors available for purchase.
