DESCRIPTION:While modern audiences view ghost stories as entertainment\, the Shakers viewed the spiritual realm as vital to their communal life\, which serves as backdrop to Canterbury Shaker Village’s Ghost Encounters on Oct. 24 – 26. \n“Ghost Encounters tours provide an opportunity for people to learn about spiritualism and its connection to the Shakers in an engaging way\,” said Education Manager Kyle Sandler. \nThe Shakers’ connection to the spiritual realm was particularly strong during the 19th century’s Era of Manifestations\, marked by increased interest in communication with the spirit world. “Many Shakers believed spirits could offer guidance\, reveal divine truths\, and strengthen their communal bonds\,” added Sandler. \nAppropriate for visitors of all ages\, these 45-minute tours will be available at 5:00 p.m.\, 6:00 p.m.\, and 7:00 p.m. on Oct. 24 – 26. Tickets for Ghost Encounters can be purchased in advance online at shakers.org for $20 for adults and $10 for children aged 12 and under. Day-of-event tickets are $25. \n  \nEstablished in 1792\, Canterbury Shaker Village is one of the oldest and most complete preserved Shaker Villages. DESCRIPTION:Women in Uniform\n\n\n\n\nExhibit Dates: May 1-October 31\, 2024 \nFrom a Yeoman (F) in WWI to an aviator\, from a sailor to an admiral\, this exhibition features works of art that depict female Navy military personnel. Women have had a continuous and growing presence in the U.S. Navy throughout the 20th and into 21st century. Whenever international or domestic events dictated the need\, the Navy expanded its opportunities for women to serve. These artworks demonstrate the wide-ranging and varied occupations women have held as they continue to push the boundaries of prospects available to them. \nA traveling exhibition from the Naval History and Heritage Command
