SUMMARY:From Sails to Atoms: The Portsmouth Naval Shipyard Exhibit - Wright Museum of World War II\, Wolfeboro NH
DESCRIPTION:  \nFROM SAILS TO ATOMS: THE PORTSMOUTH NAVAL SHIPYARD \nTEMPORARY EXHIBIT \n\n\nIn celebration of the 250th anniversary of the United States\, the Wright Museum will be highlighting one of New England’s most enduring contributions to the nation’s history: the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard. \nOfficially established as a federal navy yard in 1800\, but the home of shipbuilding as early as the 1600s\, PNSY has a long and storied history. In it’s early days\, notable ships such as the USS Washington and USS Congress were built there. In 1855\, the shipyard was also responsible for the overhaul of “Old Ironsides\,” the USS Constitution. \nThe first submarine built at the shipyard was the USS L-8 in 1917. During World War II\, the shipyard’s production of submarines was prolific\, tallying more than 70 subs\, including a record 4 launched in a single day. In the Cold War era\, the yard was also home to the construction of the revolutionary USS Albacore\, the first teardrop-hull submarine. \nFeaturing vivid images and unique interactive activities\, this special exhibit will explore all of this history\, and more! \nExhibit runs May 1 – October 31\, 2026. \nPhoto:  The USS Shad is launched at Portsmouth Naval Shipyard on April 15\, 1942. Tracing the evolution of Native American adornment—from traditional porcupine quillwork to the intricate beadwork that emerged following the introduction of European glass beads—the exhibit features rare pieces on public display for the first time. \n“Our new exhibit invites visitors to look closely at the artistry\, but also at the adaptation and resilience these pieces represent\,” said Executive Director Andrew Bullock. “Quillwork and beadwork are living traditions\, and we’re honored to share this collection with our community and with visitors traveling the Museum Trail this season.” \nIn addition to the new exhibit\, the museum has completed several accessibility upgrades ahead of opening day. The Medicine Woods Trail—an outdoor walking path featuring plants traditionally used by Native peoples for food\, medicine\, and craft—is now fully accessible to wheelchairs and strollers. Renovations to on-site restrooms and pathways have also been completed to better serve visitors of all abilities. \nMt. SUMMARY:Cirque Kalabante World of Words - Capital Center for the Arts/Swope Theater\, Concord NH
DESCRIPTION:Sunday\, October 18\, 2026\nSwope Theater\, 44 South Main Street\, Concord NH\n\n6:00 PM Doors\n7:00 PM Show Time\n$59-$68\n\nTickets\n\nGet ready for a vibrant stage experience that transcends language itself! WOW (World of Word) is more than a show — it’s an encounter\, a bridge between two worlds.\nImagine a stage where ancestral African wisdom captivates the audience. Separated by a symbolic line\, one group shares its knowledge through powerful storytelling\, hypnotic songs\, and ritual initiation\, while the other receives and learns — sometimes with fear\, sometimes in resistance.\nThe exchange begins with the obstacle of spoken language\, quickly overtaken by the universal force of gesture\, rhythm\, and sound. The set and its ropes become a language of their own: double Dutch skipping\, bungee straps\, and rope-based contortion turn into pathways of communication\, pulsing with dialogue. Three guiding figures — Trust (W)\, Respect (O)\, and Wisdom (W) lead the journey.\nThrough acrobatic contact and moments of mutual support\, the dividing line fades. Bodies merge\, blending tradition with contemporary movement. The finale erupts into a choreography of unity and collective awakening: the journey itself becomes a revelation.
