March Park Report – 2021

You’re reading our March park report, and you know what that means…Highland’s 2021 season starts next month!
The mountain opens to 2021 Season Pass Holders on Wednesday, April 28 and to the public on Thursday, April 29. (Wednesduro and Thursduro kick off on May 5 and 6, respectively.) Passes will go on sale on April 1 and, like last season, will be limited and only available online.
You may recall that we extended our summer hours last season in order to make up for the spring weekends we missed. Those bonus weekdays were such a hit that we’ve decided to keep it going…Highland will be open seven days a week for the entirety of June, July and August this year!
Pre-season HTC sessions are back: the HTC will be open for two 2.5-hour sessions every Saturday in April. Come and get your foam pit fix! Each session is strictly capped at twenty riders. Everyone must book their HTC session in advance. Masks will be required in the HTC at all times.
Currently only the pre-season HTC sessions are available to book online. We’ll let you know when the in-season session schedule is finalized and open for reservations.
The operations team has been flexing their Arts & Crafts muscles lately. Pictured above is a lift tower from the original Highlands Ski Area T-bar, which is being repurposed to serve as a new directional sign for first-time park visitors. (Welcome Center to your right, beer to your left, 2876 miles to Reno, etc.) They used the tower, old bullwheels, and some discarded lift cable to design the structure: that’s some refrigerator-worthy creativity if you ask us.
Trail Crew has almost finished building an extension of the pole barn that houses most of the mountain’s equipment and machines. We know it’s not quite as glamorous a project as fresh trail work, but all of these off-season projects set the stage for a better and more productive season than the last. (Also, sometimes we just like to show off the more behind-the-scenes work of our multi-talented Operations and Trails teams. They’re cool people!)
Next on the list is tackling our new backyard infrastructure. By the time that’s done, it’ll be spring and the crew will be back in the woods getting the trails dialed for opening day!
So let’s talk summer. We’ve gotten a handful of questions about this already, and we’re happy to confirm: the Friday Night Race Series is back again for 2021! Six weeks of racing, weekly raffles, team point-scoring, and precise chip timing—plus plenty of good times in the backyard.
Registration will open on May 1st. Start assembling your team members today: competition is going to be hot.
The FNRS won’t be your only chance to compete this summer: we’re very excited to be introducing our amateur slopestyle series! Highland will be hosting three bronze-level FMB events for up-and-coming slopestyle athletes. Both men’s and women’s classes will be available, broken into three different age brackets.
Event details will be released in the next few weeks. In the meantime, riders and spectators should mark their calendars for June 19, August 21, and September 25.
That’s all the news from the hill! Only seven more weeks until we see this lift in motion again. Enjoy the rest of your winter season, and we’ll see you as soon as the snow melts!
Don’t Miss Out!
