The M/S Mount Washington on Lake Winnipesaukee

The M/S Mount Washington on Lake Winnipesaukee

The cruise aboard the M/S Mt. Washington gives you a big taste of New Hampshire’s beautiful Lake Winnipesaukee. The M/S Mount Washington is a 230-ft. excursion cruise ship. It has 4 levels and several outside decks where you can sit and enjoy some of the most spectacular scenery New England has to offer. The lake covers 44,000 acres and is mostly spring fed with pristine blue water. It contains over 300 islands and is surrounded by 3 mountain ranges. You can sit inside in heated lounges with wrap around views or choose from several outside decks.

They offer 2.5 hour scenic cruises daily, Sunday champagne brunch, as well as dinner and dance cruises with live music and buffet dinner. Breakfast, lunch and cocktails are also available during the day.

If you take the 10 AM cruise from Weirs Beach, you can get off in Wolfeboro and visit for 2.5 hours. Wolfeboro, which prides itself on being the first summer resort in the country, is a charming New England lakeside town where you’ll find quaint shops and several waterfront restaurants.

The ship stops in Wolfeboro Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Sundays it goes to Alton Bay, the southern most port on the lake. Sundays there is a buffet brunch and live entertainment on board and you can pick it up either in Alton Bay or at Weirs Beach.

Monday the ship takes the northern route and stops in Center Harbor and Meredith. Whatever port the ship stops each day, you can embark for a cruise to Weirs Beach and back.

Mount WashingtonThe sunset dinner cruises is a 3 hour affair and offer a grand buffet with at least 2 entrees, seasonal vegetables and several choices of salads. Delicious desserts and coffee round out the meal and are available at stations throughout the ship after the meal.

Entertainment includes 2 Live bands, or sometimes 1 DJ, on different dance floors. Monday nights a $10 discount is offered for adults over 60. The music is a return to the good old days with themes like Swing to The Oldies and Elvis Tribute.

Wednesday nights are a great bargain for families with kids. Children under 12 cruise and eat free (limits apply) while youth, 13–16, get a discount. This cruise is a little shorter and leaves a little earlier, 6–8 PM. The entertainment is geared to families and kids, and boy, do they have fun on the dance floor! You may have to come back again and again.

Friday nights we offer different musical themes and you can come on board in Weirs Beach at 7 PM. The ship then sails for Meredith where it picks up additional guests at 7:30. This provides a trip into Meredith Bay and a look at this lovely town from the water. Saturday nights round out the dinner cruises. The buffet includes Prime Rib and fish or seafood. The bands are always great and this big ship rocks!

Foliage season may come a little later to Lake Winnipesaukee but the scenery will never disappoint. We confidently proclaim this is the most beautiful scenic cruise in all of New England. Starting in September, the dinner cruise are concentrated around the weekends. Check it out on the website.

Another alternative to the grand Mount Washington is one of the smaller vessels, the US Mail Boat, Sophie C or the Doris E. The Sophie C is actually a floating post office, so you’d be making stops at the Islands on the lake to deliver Mail (mid June – mid September). This vessel has its own spacial postage stamp. (Bring your address book and send out some collectable postcards.) This is a wonderful trip and gives you a taste of the summer life on the islands. There is also the Doris E. which allows for a shorter cruise and can navigate the small coves and bays of this amazingly beautiful lake. Look for the loons that hang around the dock and ship at Weirs Beach. They are waiting for the ship’s engines to start and stir up the water and deliver their dinner.
