Laconia and Gilford
Known as The City on The Lake, Laconia continues to grow in its role as the Lakes Region’s home city, and its ever-popular Weirs Beach section on Lake Winnipesaukee and attractions in neighboring Gilford with Beans and Greens, and Gunstock Mountain Resort.
Gunstock Mountain Resort is a year-round destination that offers a wide variety of outdoor experiences with great snow sports and new mountain coaster. This wonderful facility offers camping, dining, zipline, aerial treetop adventure and off-road Segway tours. Gunstock is also home to large events including Soulfest, Brew & BBQ, Mountaintop Yoga, and craft fairs.
If you’re looking for “fresh, healthy and local”, Beans & Greens Farm is a fun and wonderful family experience. Kids will love the play area, the barnyard animals, and sprawling gardens. Special events include corn maze in the fall and their summer Kid’s Day On The Farm event. The farm stand offers fresh vegetables, baked goods, and deli offerings, and the greenhouse offers cut flowers, annuals, and perennials.
Hiking Belknap Mountain is a popular spot, as it is the highest point in the county and provides incredible views of Gunstock Mountain and the lake. The trailhead is located in Gilford, NH. This is a classic family hiking destination as the trail is moderate in nature and great for those just breaking into hiking.
City shops have always been attractive to visitors, particularly on holidays. There are delightful coffee shops and cafe’s to explore along with the Belknap Mill a former textile mill. The Laconia Antique Center on Main Street is one of the largest antique stores in the region with over 22,000 sq. ft. and 150 dealers. Visitors can now also walk, bike and run have a place downtown, too, on the city’s WOW Trail. Built along the active tracks currently leased to the Winnipesaukee Scenic Railroad, the trail spans from Elm Street in the city’s Lakeport area to downtown Laconia and then on to the Belmont town line where it meets with Belmont’s Winnisquam Scenic Trail, creating nearly 4.5 miles of continuous trail between Lakeport and Belmont. Visitors can also board the scenic railroad in Lakeport.
