LINCOLN, NH – The Hobo Railroad in Lincoln, NH and the Winnipesaukee Scenic Railroad in Meredith & Weirs Beach, NH, recently announced their annual switch to their Fall schedule following Labor Day weekend.
Following a single week of weekend-only operations on September 7 & 8, 2019, the Hobo Railroad resumes daily operations on Saturday, September 14, 2019 with the return of the Railroad’s Hobo Harvest Time Express Fall celebration which is available daily through Monday, October 14, 2019.
Referred to by many as “New Hampshire’s Classic Fall Foliage Experience”, the Lincoln, NH-based Railroad takes on an entirely new appearance for the Fall season. Most obvious is the Railroad’s garden area which is encircled with bundles of cornstalks and transformed into the Hobo Farm Yard. Filled with games the entire family can enjoy, the activities include pumpkin bowling, ring toss, horseshoes, bean bag toss, sack races and corn hole – all of which will all be available daily.
The now-famous, life-sized themed Scarecrows will be on display once again in the Hobo Farm Yard this year. The theme for this year’s Scarecrow display is “Super Heroes” and includes the likes of Captain America, Batman & Robin, Superman, Wonder Woman, Spiderman, Black Panther, the Flash and Green Lantern. In addition, a the Presby Transportation Museum located in Whitefield, NH will once again provide a display of antique tractors for guests to enjoy.
As you might expect, Fall train rides are also part of the month-long Harvest Time Express celebration with departures available daily at 11:00am and 1:00pm with 3:00pm train rides added to the weekend schedule starting September 21st. Tickets for the Hobo Harvest Time Express celebration September 14 through October 14 include the 80-minute train ride as well as complete access to the Hobo Farmyard – prices are $20 for ages 4 and up, while ages 3 and under ride for free.
Fall operations wind down at the Hobo Railroad the weekend of October 19 & 20 with train rides departing Hobo Junction Station at 11:00am and 1:00pm both days. Tickets for the final weekend of Fall operations will be $18 for adults and $13 for children 4-12, while ages 3 and under ride for free.
After a short break in early November, the Hobo Railroad is transformed once again and reopens the Friday after Thanksgiving, November 29, for their popular Santa Express trains. Tickets for Santa Express Trains are $30 for First Class seating for ages 4 and up, while tickets for Coach seating will be $22 for ages 4 and up – as always, ages 3 and under ride for free. Available weekends at 1:00pm through Sunday, December 22, advance reservations are strongly suggested as the Santa Express Trains often sell out early. The Winnipesaukee Scenic Railroad based in Meredith & Weirs Beach, NH switches to weekend-only operations after Labor Day weekend. The Railroad will offer 1-hour round-trip train rides from Weirs Beach departing at 11am, 12pm & 1pm on September 7 & 8, 14 & 15 and 21 & 22, while the departure schedule changes slightly for the weekends of September 28 & 29 as well as October 5 & 6, 12, 13 & 14 with 1-hour train rides along the Lake departing Weirs Beach at 11am, 1pm & 3pm. The final weekend of Fall operations for the Weirs Beach operation will be October 19 & 20 with 1-hour train rides available both days at 11am, 12pm, 1pm, 2pm & 3pm.
Tickets for the 1-hour round-trip excursions from Weirs Beach are $19.00 for adults and $14.00 for children 4-12, while ages 3 and under ride for free. Tickets for the 1-hour train rides can be purchased at the Railroad’s ticket booth located on the Boardwalk at 211 Lakeside Avenue in Weirs Beach, or through the Railroad’s web site at www.HoboRR.com.
The Railroad’s Meredith Station located at 154 Main Street in Meredith, NH switches to weekend operations following Labor Day as well with 2-hour round-trip train rides along the western shore of Lake Winnipesaukee scheduled for three consecutive weekends – September 7 & 8; 14 & 15 and 21 & 22. Tickets for the 2-hour round-trip rides departing Meredith at 10:30am & 12:30pm are $21 for adults and $16 for children 4-12, while ages 3 and under ride for free.
In addition, the Winnipesaukee Scenic Railroad also offers special weekend Fall Foliage excursions. Topping the list is the Fall Foliage Special which treats passengers to a 4-hour round-trip experience from Meredith to Plymouth, NH and back with a stop at the Common Man Inn & Spa in Plymouth where they’ll enjoy a hot buffet lunch. Following lunch at the Common Man, the Fall Foliage Special stops in Ashland, NH where passengers enjoy a guided tour of a completely restored 1869 Boston & Maine Railroad train station.
The Fall Foliage Special is available September 28 & 29 and October 4, 5 & 6; 11, 12, 13 & 14 and 19 & 20. Tickets start at $71.95 for Coach Class seating, with First Class tickets available for $101.95 and Presidential Class accommodations available $115.95. All tickets include the hot buffet lunch at the Common Man as well as a special souvenir excursion booklet. The Winnipesaukee Scenic Railroad also hosts four special 2-hour Turkey Dinner Trains on Saturday evenings in late September and October. The dates include September 28 and October 5, 12 & 19. Catered by Hart’s Turkey Farm in Meredith, guests enjoy a complete Thanksgiving-style turkey dinner aboard the train which includes hand-carved roast turkey, stuffing, squash, mashed potato and rolls & butter – while warm Apple Crisp is served for dessert.
