The SLA is dedicated to conserving for public benefit the natural beauty, peaceful character and resources of the watershed. We have been doing this since 1904. We strive to maintain the exceptional beauty, natural health, and quality of life for those living near and visiting this iconic lake using Watershed Wellness.

Watershed Wellness is the holistic wellbeing of the entire Squam Lakes watershed based on the ecological integrity of the land and water resources and the health of the watershed communities. Our scope of work covers the mountains and forests, wetlands and water, work within the watershed communities, and advocacy at the local, regional, and state level. We undertake these efforts with programs in conservation, education, and recreation. We partner with many local and regional groups and work closely with volunteers in order to better accomplish our mission.

The habitats of this watershed are a wonderful home for a variety of northern plant and animal communities. The lakes hold healthy populations of fish. The natural beauty and recreational opportunities encompassed within the Squam Watershed are a very powerful draw for people from across the country, indeed the world. This same draw is a crucial economic driver for the local communities. The Squam Lakes Association is dedicated to ensuring this same level of environmental and recreational quality now and for all future generations.

Come listen to Peter tell stories sparked from the images on these postcards, and chime…

Volunteer: Terrestrial Invasive Plant & Removal Training

Join SLA AmeriCorps members for a morning of terrestrial invasive plant removal! We will work around SLA's campus to identify and remove invasive plants. Afterwards, you will feel confident identifying and properly removing these plants from other areas in the watershed. Volunteers will also have an opportunity to receive training for our “Invasive Species Spotters” program. This volunteer program allows the Squam Lakes Association to collect important data regarding the presence and distribution of terrestrial invasive species in the watershed.…
