The longest-running overnight camp of its kind, the Ski & Snowboard Camp at Tohkomeupog returns during Presidents’ Vacation Week, Feb. 16 – Feb. 22, 2025. This camp gives kids a chance to enjoy a week of structured ski or snowboard lessons on the slopes of King Pine Ski Area in Madison, NH. Lessons are followed by supervised free time on the mountain to help campers solidify their new skills. Now marking its 87th year, the Ski & Snowboard Camp at Tohkomeupog is accepting registrations for the 2025 session.
Since 1939, the Ski & Snowboard Camp at Tohkomeupog has welcomed boys and girls with fun and exciting possibilities for winter recreation. Wearing leather boots strapped to wooden skis, early skiers created many tracks on these friendly slopes. When King Pine officially opened in 1962, countless individuals had already traveled to these hills to discover the thrill and camaraderie of skiing.
Today, this Ski & Snowboard Camp maintains its long-standing tradition of excellent instruction within the social setting. Boys and girls come to camp to ski, board, skate, swim, sled, dance, laugh, and learn together. An indoor pool, skating rink, tubing hill, and dance hall provide campers with ample opportunities for fun when not on the slopes.
“While other opportunities for winter recreation are available for kids during the school vacation week, what we offer is a very unique camp experience,“ stated Camp Coordinator, Steve Harding. “We are proud of our tradition and our longevity. To our knowledge, we are the longest-running recreational overnight ski & snowboard camp of its kind in the country.”
Ski & Snowboard Camp is hosted by Tohkomeupog – a residential summer camp. The camp uses two main lodges as dormitories, each situated around a central dining facility. Kids are placed in rooms based on current grade and age, with most rooms housing up to 6 campers.
Full-time camp counselors reside in each room. All rooms are heated and have private bathrooms with hot-water showers. Camp includes three hearty meals a day, served as a buffet, with a variety of choices featuring several entrée items along with side dishes, salads, breads, and desserts.
Whether kids come to camp alone, or with companions from home, they will soon discover that friendship and fun are integral parts of this experience. The youngest campers are 2nd grade (age 7/8) and range up to 10th grade (age 16). Regardless of age, kids who come to camp will discover a unique experience with a group of people who inevitably become friends.
Ski & Snowboard Camp was created following a traditional overnight summer camp template. It is a highly energetic social community wrapped around an instructional foundation. Kids come to camp with a desire to learn to ski and ride better, while also having fun. Structured lesson periods are held twice daily on most days – 2 hours in the morning; 1½ hours in the afternoon.
Counselors act as instructors on the slopes, where campers are split into classes based on ability, ranging from beginner to advanced. Lessons are followed by supervised free time on the mountain, which enables the kids to mix together with friends in other classes.
Tuition costs $1250 including lodging, meals, and programs. Ski and snowboard rental equipment is available for an additional fee. “Our camp offers families a great value,” added Harding, “Not only when compared to buying single-day lessons for kids during this holiday week period, but also when considering the other parts of the program which are included.”
