Watercolor has a reputation for being a finicky medium—and for good reason. There is a delicate dance between pigment, water, paper, humidity, timing, and technique. Yet that unpredictability is also part of what makes watercolor so fascinating.

When Gail Brunt first began working with watercolor, she frequently heard that successful watercolor painting should be “loose.” But Gail enjoys realism, precision, and detail. A visit to the New England Watercolor Society’s competition galleries offered an encouraging discovery: watercolor can be expressive, detailed, loose, controlled—or anything in between.

During this free and informal presentation, Gail will demonstrate some of the interesting and sometimes surprising things watercolor can do. She’ll share techniques, observations, and examples from her own experience, including times when she has stepped away from precision and simply played with the paint.

Whether you already paint in watercolor, are curious about trying it, or simply enjoy seeing how artists work, this promises to be a fun, informative, and approachable presentation.

Come join us, learn something new, and discover a few of watercolor’s possibilities.
