Join us at 8 AM on Saturday, July 18th for the annual Loon Census! From 8-9 AM, hundreds of volunteers across the state will take to the water to survey for loons. This simultaneous survey of hundreds of lakes at the exact same time creates a “snapshot in time” of New Hampshire’s loon population. This data will be rolled up into our season-long monitoring to help us determine how New Hampshire’s loons fared in 2026. To participate in the census, simply visit your favorite local lake from 8-9 AM on Saturday, July 18th, search for loons, and submit your data to LPC by Sunday, July 26th. Data can be submitted using our Online Census Form or by mailing a paper census form to LPC at PO Box 604, Moultonborough NH 03254. 

*Please note: The purpose of the Loon Census is to have a simultaneous survey of as many lakes as possible. Because of this, census observations must take place on July 18th from 8-9 AM. Observations from outside of this time window cannot be counted. The census will be held rain or shine! In order for your census observations to be included in our count, they must be submitted to LPC no later than Sunday, July 26th.
