Maple Sugar Bush Management – Prescott Farm Environmental Education Center, Laconia NH

Join UNH Extension Forest Resource Specialists Lindsay Watkins and Steve Roberge to learn how to manage your maple sugar bush, no matter how large or small. Learn management strategies that will keep your sugar bush producing sap for many years to come while also benefit local wildlife. Dress for walking outdoors as we walk into Prescott Farm’s sugar bush. Snowshoes or micro spikes will be provided.

Instructor Bios
Steven Roberge is the University of New Hampshire Cooperative Extension’s Forestry Specialist and Professor. In this role he oversees the system of county Extension foresters, coordinates outreach to forest owners and professionals and implements the
State’s Forest Stewardship Program. Steve and his team provide stewardship options for forest owners to help manage the state’s private forestland. Steve earned a B.S. in Forest Science from the University of New Hampshire, and a Masters of Forest Science
from Yale University. At home, Steve tends to maples that he taps every spring and thinks about trees every day.
Lindsay Watkins is Extension’s Forest Resources Field Specialist (AKA County Forester) for Strafford County and Belknap County. Before joining Extension in 2023,she worked as a consulting forester and arborist in the San Juan Islands in Washington,
but she considers New Hampshire her “chosen home state”.; Prior to her detour to the upper left corner of the country, Lindsay worked for the Appalachian Mountain Club, theNature Conservancy, and the US Forest Service. Lindsay has an M.S. from the Field Naturalist Program at the University of Vermont and a B.S. in Natural Resources from Cornell. She is also an ISA Certified Arborist and TCIA Certified Tree Care Safety Professional and considers herself a well-rounded “Professional Tree Nerd”
