“My Shaker Home” was the last known song composed at Canterbury Shaker Village. Its composer, Sister Bertha Lillian Phelps (1876-1973), was a pianist and author of a booklet about Shaker music.
Musicologist Roger Lee Hall will explore the history of this song and others in a thoughtful presentation focused on his first-person experiences with Sister Lillian and Eldress Bertha Lindsay in 1972.
Hall is a respected ASCAP composer and music preservationist who has studied a variety of American classical, folk, and popular songs over his more than 50 year career.
Hall’s presentation will be accompanied by a performance of the Canterbury Singers. Concert is Free.
