Private Letterpress Printing Workshops – Canterbury Shaker Village, Canterbury NH

Learn the basics of typesetting and operating a press while creating your own set of beautiful, hand-printed pieces to take home.
Workshops are $100 per participant (maximum of 2). Optional custom artwork setup available for an additional $50.
Please note: Each session is dedicated to one workshop type—see below. Participants can choose from one of the classes below.
Greeting Card Set Workshop:
• Design and print a custom greeting on a folded card, for you to mail or gift. Cards will be printed on the front panel. and with any remaining time, you can add a short inside message or “Printed by…” on the back.
Stationery Set Workshop:
• Create your own personalized stationery with a custom heading printed in one or two colors on a single side.
Single-Face Print Set Workshop:
• Print a quote, original poem, short message, or custom layout on single-face flat cards — perfect for framing, gifting, or mailing. Small caption can be printed on the back if time allows.
Optional Add-on: Original Artwork / Custom Design:
• Want to print your own design or illustration? Prior to your workshop, Charles will work with you to convert your artwork into one- or two-color photopolymer printing plates, which you’ll use during your session.
• Choose whether to print your piece as a greeting card, stationery, or single-face print set. You’ll keep the printing plates as a souvenir!
• Note: This project requires at least two weeks notice and an extra fee of $50.
What’s included
Each session includes:
• Instruction in basic letterpress technique and typesetting
• Use of moveable metal type, wood block image cuts, borders, and decorative elements
• Access to a large collection of fonts/typefaces
• Printing in one or two ink colors
• Printing on premium cotton paper
• Matching envelopes (where applicable)
• All materials provided — just bring your creativity!
Choose your workshop:
Greeting Card Set Workshop includes 15 folded greeting cards + 15 envelopes (4.25″x 5.5″).
Stationery Set Workshop includes 25 flat cards + 25 envelopes (4.25″ x 5.5″) or 20 flat cards + 20 envelopes (4.5″ x 6.25″).
Single-Face Print Set Workshop includes 20 flat cards + 20 envelopes (4.5″ x 6.25″)
Add-on:
Original Artwork / Custom Design Option includes souvenir printing plate and same printed quantities/choices as the workshops listed above.
