Join the Squam Lakes Association on a hike exploring Five Finger Point on Saturday, May 31st, from 8:00 – 10:00 a.m., looking for birds! During this hike, we will go through different habitats of the Five Finger Points, coves, pools, and forested areas to discover different bird species. Lakes Region Conservation Corps (LRCC) AmeriCorps member, Emma Murray, will lead the hike and teach participants characteristics to look for while birding and help ID birds.

If you are an experienced birder, please join! If you have no experience birding, we’ll teach out the basics about what to look for when ID-ing a bird. This will be a relaxed program where we hike and look for whatever birds are in the area.

All ages are welcome. Children must be accompanied by adults.

Participants should have spring hiking gear and be prepared for rain or shine. Spring weather is variable so be prepared with layers and snacks.

If Participants have their own binoculars to use during the hike that would be great, but not required as sound identification is the most common way to ID birds. If you have the ability to download CornellLab’s Merlin Bird ID application on a phone this would also be a helpful tool to help Identify birds, and can be used to help you ID birds in other locations around the Lakes Region!

Hello! My name is Emma Murray and I’m a recent graduate of SUNY ESF College of Environmental Science and Forestry in Syracuse, New York. I just graduated with a degree in Environmental Biology and applied my love of silviculture to get a minor in Forestry.
